DCIA Executive Director Job Description

The Delaware Captive Insurance Association is a new and developing non-profit association that is seeking a creative self-starter who enjoys working independently and who is looking for an opportunity to shape an organization from its early stages. A successful candidate for this position will be a highly motivated individual who will ensure his or her own success through the development and expansion of the organization. The Executive Director will report directly to the DCIA Board of Directors and will be responsible for supporting the association's mission. The Executive Director will initially work very closely with the Board of Directors and the Administrator of the Delaware Captive Insurance program and will gain more independence with experience.

The role of the DCIA Executive Director will be a multi-faceted one. Responsibilities will include:

Administration:

  • Office Management, including equipment, facilities, etc.
  • Coordinates Human Resources activities
  • Manages other personnel, as personnel is added

Communications:

  • Serves as main point of contact for all communication related to the association
  • Manages the DCIA website and coordinates with web designer/web hosting service provider
  • Directs all public relations efforts
  • Develops association newsletter (if any)

Meetings and Events:

  • Coordinates timing and logistics for board and committee meetings in conjunction with board and/or committee members
  • Develops and distributes agendas and minutes for board and committee meetings
  • Prepares and presents a quarterly Executive Director report for the Board
  • Monitors industry events on an international, national and local level
  • Engages all service contractors for DCIA events
  • Books space for meetings and events
  • Serves as main coordinator for all events
  • Handles coordination of volunteers and speakers at all events
  • Coordinates member representatives for appearances at identified conferences and events

Education:

  • Monitors educational programs in other jurisdictions
  • Works with Board committees to develop educational opportunities
  • Coordinates the implementation of these educational opportunities

Marketing:

  • Assists with the development and maintenance of marketing materials
  • Participates in market research to identify emerging areas of interest and focus
  • Acts as ambassador for the DCIA, representing the organization at identified industry events
  • Serves as liaison among members to identify marketing opportunities for members

Membership:

  • Directs and administers the association's program to attract new members and retain existing members
  • Works with Board to identify and implement benefits for Founding Members
  • Recruits and builds relationships with key local and industry leaders

Finance:

  • Works with Finance Committee to maintain books and records
  • Assists with budgeting process
  • Monitors checking account and credit card processing
  • Processes all credit card transactions
  • Pays regular association bills
  • Works with counsel to maintain any filings necessary to retain 501(c)(6) designation

Legislative:

  • Works with Legislative Committee to monitor and develop legislative changes, as necessary
  • Develops relationships with political leaders

Requirements:

  • This job is located in Wilmington, Delaware and will require periodic travel.
    • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree and/or certification preferred
    • Prior non-profit experience preferred
    • Experience with event planning
    • Demonstrated leadership qualities including excellent communication skills both verbal and written and excellent people skills
    • Ability to interact successfully with a diverse group of people including, staff, board members, volunteers, members, press, local politicians and industry peers
    • Strong organizational skills - ability to set priorities and achieve goals
    • Detail oriented
    • Familiarity with captive insurance
    • Strong desire to make the Association successful
    • Knowledge of the local industry and political climate a plus.
